So you've got visitors, and they're purchasing products from you. But is there a way to get them to buy more per order? Luckily, you've seen the most effective concepts at work your entire life. In fact, you see them in action every time you go to the market to do your grocery shopping.
Larger sales occur through a number of different processes. First, make sure your customers see as many products as possible. This means including cross sells on your site on both item pages and on your cart page (and sometimes even on section pages). You don't want the cross sell to overwhelm your customer and keep them from seeing your main product, but make sure they always are seeing something they can purchase. And wherever possible, make it something that would draw their interest (similar, related or complementary products).
Also, make sure you make it as easy as possible for them to purchase multiple products (buying more than one of a product or purchasing multiple products).
Lastly, whenever it makes sense, provide a discount or benefit to purchasing more (quantity discounts, free shipping over a certain sales amount, etc.). Customers can frequently spend more if they see an added benefit to doing so.
